Federation of LISS

LEARNING FOR LIFE

WELCOME

On behalf of the children, staff and Governors, I would like to welcome you to the Federation of Liss Infant and Junior Schools. We are a two-form entry infant school and a two-form entry junior school situated on the same site in the semi-rural village of Liss in East Hampshire, close to the West Sussex border. We came together as a federation in September 2018, which means that we share one Governing Body and an Executive Headteacher.

Our children come from a variety of areas including outlying towns and villages. The infant school can accommodate 180 pupils in 6 classes and the junior school can accommodate 240 children in 8 classes. We also have  resourced provisions  for pupils with moderate learning difficulties at both schools (10 places in the infant provision and 12 places in the junior provision). Both schools are well-resourced and benefit from extensive grounds.

The primary phase is unique, children join us at the end of toddlerhood when they are learning about routines, sitting and listening, turn-taking, using materials and writing implements, and functioning as part of a group and larger community. By the time the leave, they are entering adolescence and are proficient in reading fluently, writing accurately and at length on a range of topics, using the four operations and problem solving. They have a broad general knowledge and are able to remain motivated and work independently or as part of a group.

We have high expectations of all of our pupils and aim to inspire resilience, independence and a lifelong love of learning through a range of stimulating and challenging learning opportunities including visits, visitors, music tuition and sports coaching. We nurture a love of life, and mutual respect in an environment where everyone is happy, valued and every voice is heard. We ensure that our children grow socially, emotionally and academically to enable them to become valued and responsible members of the community.

We strongly believe in working in partnership with parents, the local community, our active PTA and dedicated Governing Body. We listen to and value the views of our families and children.

Whilst we are two distinctive schools, we work very closely together as one team to ensure a seamless primary journey for our children. We provide regular opportunities for the pupils in both schools to learn together and work on shared projects

Our designated Safeguarding Leads are Sophie Underwood and Emily Aston across both schools, Josephine Armstrong at the Infant School, Adam Stanley at the Junior School and Sara Lyon across both schools in her role as Home-School Link Worker.

I hope that you find the information within this website useful, however it is only a taster of life at The Federation of Liss Infant and Junior Schools as we cannot possibly cover all aspects of school life. We would encourage you to arrange to visit the schools and come and meet us. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have or for further information. Paper copies of any information on this website are available free of charge on request.
